Ieva Šveikauskienė
Clinic’s Head of Psychiatry, Doctor-Psychiatrist
In my first year of residency, I worked in psychiatric facilities as a physician’s assistant. I started working at a mental health center as soon as I graduated. In order to shift the focus of my employment, I began working in a mental health facility. I have become a specialist after working in both outpatient and inpatient practices. While working in the hospital, I obtained vital knowledge in the acute sector and in the geriatric ward. Since 2015, I have been in charge of the newly established psychiatric day hospital in Jonava. On Doctor’s Day, I received an award for my professionalism, commitment and implementation of new ideas. In 2016, I was awarded by the Mayor of Jonava for my significant contribution to the development of the activities and my initiative in the development of psychiatric day hospital work.
Treatment should be holistic: medical treatment should be followed by psychological, psychotherapeutic, kinesiotherapeutic, occupational and relaxation activities. I have always been guided by the principle that we treat the person, not the diagnosis.
In my view, a person’s mental health is a system made up of their family, friends, employment, social surroundings, and personal traits, not only the existence or lack of a problem.
I regularly engage in conferences and numerous seminars, pay close attention to my patients, and am interested in the state of psychiatry today. I frequently experiment with novel medications and don’t hesitate to start therapeutic modifications or unconventional approaches.
